Willow Smith – Why Don’t You Cry

Willow Smith confronts teen angst and family conflict in the emotional video for her new song “Why Don’t You Cry,” which she conceived herself. In the clip, directed by Nuyorktricity’s Mike Vargas, Willow appears to be caught in the middle of an argument between a couple, presumably her parents. As tears roll down her face, we see her hug herself before reaching the point of enlightenment. Plus, look for a cameo from her half-brother Trey aka DJ Ace.

The 14-year-old also appears on the dual cover of i-D’s Coming of Age issue. In the interview, she credits her parents, Will and Jada, for her encouraging her individuality.
“The only reason I carve my own path the way I do is because of the way I was raised,” says Willow. “My parents always said, ‘If you don’t carve your own path, someone’s going to carve it for you. And that’s not fun.’”
