From her release of Irawo in 2012, Seyi Shay made it clear that she has not set out to be the conventional artist. And though there are moments when she slipped into the basic noise Nigerian music tends to be ( Crazy), Seyi Shay’s music has for most part, been brilliant.
There is no doubt that that brilliance is what her debut album, Seyi or Shay, is all about. If her latest single Right Now, as beautiful as it is, was not enough to quell any doubts, a chat I had with Seyi Shay was enough to convince me that she knows exactly what she wants to achieve with this album which is set
for release on November 13.
For starters, Seyi Shay explained that the title Seyi or Shay is her featuring the two parts of her personality on this project.
According to the songstress, Seyi is the homely, traditional, domesticated, good girl while Shay is the eccentric, international and outrageous one.
While she was not keen to reveal all the artists she has worked with because she wants the element of surprise, she made it clear that an artist’s status was immaterial to her when she was picking who to work with. She gave us a tip though, that Sauti Sol of Kenya and Flavour are on the album. Also, there are productions from the likes of Harmony Samuels, TY Mix, Legendury Beatz, Masterkraft, Del B and so on.
November 13 is a day to look forward to, as we anticipate Seyi Shay’s unveiling to the world.
