We, the undersigned, call on all fans, friends, supporters, families, relatives and patriotic citizens of Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria both at home and the Diaspora to support His Excellency, Sen. (Dr) Godswill Obot Akpabio, CON to succeed in his political career as the Senate Minority Leader and the leader of opposition party in the National Assembly.
This call is initiated by concerned and patriotic citizens of our great country to counter a recent sponsored print and social media offensive on our respected and revered leader and elder statesman by some faceless individuals to tarnish his image and reputation for cheap political reason. This sponsored campaign of calumny has been going on for the past one year and few months, hence we resolved to put a STOP to it.
Transformational leaders are celebrated globally for the legacies they left behind. Late Singaporean leader, Lee Kuan Yew and Nelson Mandela of South Africa are typical example of leaders whose legacies stand the taste of time and Sen. Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State is no exemption. Being a leader brings with it a responsibility to do something of significance that make families, communities, nations, and the world a better place than one met it year after he might left the scene. Lee Kuan Yew did it in Singapore, Nelson Mandela did it in South Africa and Godswill Akpabio is not wanting in this regard as he has conscientiously formulated and executed policies and programs that impact meaningfully on the lives of citizenry. Through his leadership attributes, he has been able to raise the bar of democratic governance in Nigeria and improve the self-worth of an average Akwa Ibom person to stand shoulder to shoulder among equals from other states.
Akpabio has accomplished where many have failed. Today, his personality, pedigree and political instinct have earned him both national and global credentials, virtually printing his name in gold as a leader who has uncommonly transformed his society for good. During his administration, he embarked on massive infrastructural development, human capacity development, investment in healthcare delivery services, free and compulsory education for both primary and secondary school level which is the only state in Nigeria with such a laudable investment. Through investment in education, Godswill Akpabio has affected mass of families, especially by paying the examination fees. This investment is one seed government has sown into the future of Akwa Ibom people. It is a long term investment that would bring massive harvest in future. Hear him, “The labours of today would be inherited by the children of today and we need to prepare them for that day so that our legacies would be in safe hands tomorrow. That is why we have invested massively in educational infrastructure to complement our free and compulsory education policy. This is for all children resident in our state irrespective of their state of origin.” - GODSWILL AKPABIO, CON
When Godswill Akpabio set out on the journey to change the fortunes of Akwa Ibom people, he never expected that his modest effort will come under the searchlight of revered academic institutions and organizations. But during his administration as the governor of Akwa Ibom State, his outstanding achievements attracted honours, awards and accolades from across board. He is a celebrated Hero and Elder Statesman and we must accord him that respect.
We call on those who have genuine grievances to remember that we cannot grow as a nation in the atmosphere of chaos and violence. We believe that we can address all our challenges by submitting to good reason and dialoguing to find the way out of the contending issues rather than embark on media trial and mudslinging to tarnish his image as such move will meet stiff opposition.
OUR APPEAL - We therefore demand for one million (1,000,000) signatures from all his fans across Nigeria and the Diaspora to stand up with Sen. Godswill Obot Akpabio against the sponsored campaign of calumny to tarnish his image by political jobbers and faceless activists. Godswill Akpabio is a revered LEADER and ELDER STATESMAN and we have no other option than to celebrate him till his last breath on planet earth.
